India WeddingsMarriages are made in Heaven and celebrated here. Yes, it's true and especially in India marriage is a really big celebration, this is the time when everyone wants to enjoy every second. On the occasion of an Indian marriage you will see people in very traditional dress, men in traditional dress and colorful turbans and ladies in very gorgeous traditional colorful dress and Jewelry. It takes a minimum of 03 days to 07 days to go through all the rituals. Every day all of the family members and friends will be meeting to celebrate this life time moment of the Bride and Bridegroom and will sing songs and dance to give more liveliness to this function.

On the day of the wedding a procession will start from the Bridegroom’s place to the Bride’s place it is called as BARAAT. Baraat consists of a live brass band, horses, camels, elephants and a special white horse for the Bridegroom. Everybody will be typically dressed, a special dress for the Bridegroom and of course, the Bride will also be wearing a superb embroidered dress and she will be fully covered by the best of Jewelry. People will be dancing with the procession, there will be fireworks on the way to add more to this procession.

On arrival at the Bride’s place all will be welcomed by her family and friends, a lavish buffet for invitees and the venue will be illuminated like a Palace. Later there will be rituals of marriage where the Bride and Bridegroom will witness the God of Fire and will promise each other to be a ideal couple and will take seven rounds of fire with seven promises. Later with the best possible Dowry the Bride will leave her home forever and will go and live with her husband’s family. Usually the number of invitees depends on the relation of the families and it can be from 50 to 5000 in India which basically depends on status of family.

We can arrange all of this for your marriage or if you are married and want us to organize this for your Wedding Anniversary as a Mock Wedding we can do this as well for you. Some more details about Indian Marriages.
One place where the caste system is still well entrenched is the choosing of marriage partners. Long ago there were several types of marriages in India, like it was different for the Maharajas, Business people and also for Hindus and other castes. It was very tough and costly in ancient India and today is also the same. There are few mythological stories which tell us a lot of marriages of the God and Goddess, it has a different theme and style but now we only need to read a few of the ‘matrimonial’ advertisements which appear in many places, including the national Newspapers, to realize that marriages across the ‘Caste bar’ even among wealthy,  well-educated or higher caste people, is basically not on.

The majority of marriages are still arranged by the parents, although ‘Love marriages’ are becoming more common, particularly in the big cities. When a couple are choosing a partner for their Son or Daughter,  a number of factors are taken into consideration: caste of course is pre-eminent, but other considerations are beauty and physical flaws – the matrimonial ads can seem brutally frank in this regard and a horoscope for the would-be partner is often called for. Many potential matches are rejected simply because the astrological signs are not propitious. The financial status of prospective partner’s family is also taken into account.

Another facet of marriage is the pernicious dowry. A dowry was originally a gift to the bride from her parents, so she would have something of her own and would in turn be able to provide a dowry to her own daughters. These days, however, the dowry is a matter of status for the bride’s family – the bigger the dowry and grander the ceremony, the greater the prestige to the family. Although the practice is officially outlawed, a dowry is still expected in the majority of cases.

For poorer families the marriage can become a huge financial burden. The amount of an expected dowry varies, but it is never small. The main determining factor is the level of education and social standing of the young man: a dowry of at least US $20,000 would be expected from the family of a young woman hoping to marry a graduate of a foreign university, a Doctor or other highly paid professional. A ‘Green Card’ (American residence card) is also highly desirable, and the holder of one can command a high price. Virginity is also of vital importance, and it is often listed among the woman’s attributes in the matrimonial columns.
