Days 1-2: USA or Canada/Delhi, India Board an overnight flight to Delhi. Arrive in India’s capital, a city awash in a colorful mix of people, aromas and tastes — from its dazzling palaces to its bustling bazaars.

Day 3: Delhi Explore New Delhi, including the soaring tower of Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Humayun’s Tomb, a pre-cursor to the Taj Mahal; and the massive India Gate. In Old Delhi, visit the marvelous Red Fort citadel and Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and Shah Jahan’s last architectural extravagance. Venture through the narrow lanes of the Chandni Chowk bazaar by rickshaw, inching your way through cars and wandering cows and peering at the wares for sale in the crowded shop fronts.

Day 4: Delhi/Udaipur This morning, fly to the romantic city of Udaipur, where you are transferred to your fort-palace hotel in the Aravalli Hills outside the city. Later, enjoy a sunset camel safari to the small lake of Bappa Rawal.

Day 5: Udaipur
This morning, visit the ornate temples of Eklingji and Nagda, nestled in the Aravalli Hills. Later, return to the city and board a motor launch (water levels permitting) for a lake cruise on the placid waters of Lake Pichola, visiting Jag Mandir, a 17th-century palace built for royal parties and functions that rests on its own island.

Day 6: Udaipur
After an in-depth exploration of the many rooms, winding corridors and courtyards of the City Palace, located along the shores of Lake Pichola, head next door to the Fateh Prakesh Palace. Continue to Sahelion Ki Bari (Garden of the Maids of Honor), with its detailed fountains, tranquil lotus pool and marble elephants.

Day 7: Udaipur/Jaipur
Fly to Jaipur, known as the "pink city" for its many palaces and temples constructed with pink plastered stone. The color was applied to mimic the red sandstone buildings of Mughal cities. This afternoon, start your exploration of Jaipur. Admire the amazing astronomical devices at the outdoor Jantar Mantar Observatory and make a photo stop at the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds).

Day 8: Jaipur
This morning, explore the spacious courtyards and Mughal-style buildings of the 17th-century Amber Fort. Then travel to a private farm in the Rajasthani countryside for an exclusive elephant ride in the company of an expert mahout (trainer). Savor an al fresco lunch, served overlooking an elephant polo field with views of the surrounding desert hills as a backdrop.

Day 9: Jaipur/Agra
Travel overland through rural India, stopping at the abandoned red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrive in Agra this afternoon.

Day 10: Agra
Visit the incomparable Taj Mahal at sunrise, and then tour Agra, including the imposing Agra Fort. Cross a bridge — so small it is only accessible by private parties such as yours —over the Yamuna River to visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s mausoleum, sometimes called the "Baby Taj" for its ornate carvings and inlay work. From this vantage point, enjoy yet another perspective of the Taj Mahal. Return to the Taj Mahal again in the late afternoon to watch as the sunset’s waning light changes the color of its walls. Or opt to watch the sunset with a sundowner in hand from your luxury hotel room, which affords incredible views of the structure right from your balcony.

Day 11: Agra/Delhi
Travel to Gurgaon, in the outskirts of Delhi. En route, visit Sikandra, the tomb of Mughal emperor Akbar.
