Day 3: Amman/Jerash/Amman
This morning, attend an introductory briefing about Jordan’s political, cultural and commercial hub. Then, begin the day’s discoveries among ruins and artifacts dating back to the Byzantine and early Islamic times at the ancient Citadel towers atop Jabal el-Qala’a. Additionally, you have an opportunity to visit Queen Rania’s grassroots project, which supports local public schools. Continue on to Jerash, known as the“Pompeii of the Middle East” for its extraordinarily well-preserved Roman ruins. Keep your eyes peeled — the grooves of chariot wheels are still visible in the cobbled streets. Walk beneath the Triumphal Arch and among the ruins of the Hippodrome and the Temple of Zeus. Take your seat for a riveting reenactment of Roman games, including gladiator contests and a chariot race.

Day 4: Amman/Madaba/ Wadi Rum/Petra
From Amman, follow mountain fringed King’s Highway through the beautiful Gorge of Amman (Wadi Mujib). Explore the city of Madaba, known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. See the famous sixth-century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land; comprised of two million pieces of colored stone, it depicts villages as far away as the Nile Delta. From here, continue to Mount Nebo, where the Bible says Moses glimpsed the Promised Land — which he would never enter — and spent his final days. As the sun sinks, pay a visit to Wadi Rum, where T. E. Lawrence lived with his Bedouin allies during World War I. Bedouin camps are evident in the Wadi, and some welcome visitors with open arms.

Day 5: Petra
UNESCO describes Petra as “one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage.” Spend a full day exploring the “rose-red” city, sculpted from a mountain range by the Nabataeans in the third century BC. Major sites include the Treasury, the Temple of Winged Lions, baths, markets, storerooms and tombs. Petra is set in a canyon with only one entrance, or siq.

Continue your drive to the Dead Sea and your resort hotel, a luxurious retreat surrounded by beautiful gardens, lagoons, olive trees and bamboo palms. Located more than 1,300 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea offers a seemingly endless array of curative activities. The locale’s high annual temperatures, low humidity and elevated atmospheric pressure — coupled with extremely oxygenated air that is high in magnesium — make for easy breathing. With the highest content of minerals and salts in the world, the Dead Sea water possesses anti-inflammatory properties, and the dark mud found on its shores has been used therapeutically for more than 2,000 years. Explore at your own pace, or relax at your resort hotel. Go for a dip in one of your hotel’s nine fresh-water pools, or spend some time in a private pergola situated steps from the water’s edge.
