If using the Translink system, Greater Vancouver is divided into 3 zones, and the number of zones you travel through will determine the fare, as will the time and day of travel. To simplify things, you may wish to consider purchasing a Day Pass which is valid for one day's unlimited travel. They have a "scratch-off" date and may be purchased in advance at Fare Dealer outlets. Day Passes are sold at ticket machines at the Sea Bus and Sky Train stations on the day of travel. By Car If you are arriving by car, you will be pleased to know that driving in Vancouver is surprisingly simple. And your car will certainly be useful if you choose to travel to some of Vancouver’s stunning surrounds. In Canada, we drive on the right side of the road, just like in the United States. Drive north of the city along the Sea to Sky Highway, one of the world’s most scenic drives. Your destination may be Squamish, less than an hour away where you will have the opportunity to have your own Canadian outdoor adventure. If you choose to head across the Strait of Georgia, you will reach the mild climes of Victoria on Vancouver Island. The unparalleled beauty of the gardens, the coastline and historical city centre make the trip here a must for any visitor. East will take you to the Mighty Fraser Country via historic Fort Langley. The magnificent canyon carved by the Fraser River is awe-inspiring, so drink in the scenery enroute to some equally spectacular attractions, like the Minter Gardens and Hell’s Gate Airtram. Getting Around Beyond Vancouver Getting to Burnaby by car: Just 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver via Highway 1, take exit 33 to Canada Way Getting to Horseshoe Bay by car: Drive across the Lion’s Gate Bridge in Vancouver. Horseshoe Bay is then signposted following Highway 99 North. Getting to Squamish & Whistler by car: Drive across the Lion’s Gate Bridge in Vancouver and follow Highway 99 to Squamish. Highway 99 is also known as the Sea to Sky Highway, and the drive to Squamish from Vancouver will take about 45 minutes. The famous resort of Whistler is another 45 minutes drive further up the Highway. Getting to Langley by Car From Vancouver: Follow the Trans Canada, Highway 1 East to the 232nd Street South exit Getting to Fort Langley by car From Vancouver: Follow the Trans Canada, Highway 1 East to the 232nd Street North exit. Follow 232nd Street to the stop sign on Glover Road. Turn right. Follow Glover Road into the village of Fort Langley. Getting to the Mighty Fraser Country: From Vancouver: Follow the Trans Canada Highway 1 East past Fort Langley. The highway will take you through the towns of Chilliwack, Rosedale for Minter Gardens, Hope and north to the Hell’s Gate Airtram. Getting Around Victoria By Coach The most civilised way to undertake the 3 ½ hour journey to Victoria from Vancouver is with Pacific Coach Lines. Transfers between the two cities depart frequently every day of the week, and includes the 95 minute ferry ride through the Gulf Islands with BC Ferries. For information on schedules, fares and to make a booking, call PCL on 1 800 661 1725. By Car Driving to Victoria couldn’t be simpler. Take the 40 minute drive south on Oak Street to Highway 99, before turning on to Highway 17 observing the signs for the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. Upon arrival at the terminal, you can purchase your tickets up to five minutes prior to the sailing. You will be given a space on the first available sailing. After the 95 minute ferry ride, you will drive off at Swartz Bay, and join Highway 17 for the 30 minute drive to Victoria. You may choose to reserve your place on a particular sailing. To do so, call 1-888-223-3779. Please note there is a charge for this service. By Bus A network of buses link together all areas of Victoria and the surrounding areas. The transit service area is divided into two fare zones. The fare you pay for the bus is based upon the number of zones you are travelling through. Tickets can be paid with cash, and the exact fare should be presented as drivers carry no change. To save on fares and for convenience, you may wish to consider purchasing a DayPass which allows you unlimited access throughout the region. Children aged 12 and under travel free provided they are travelling with a fare-paying adult. Day Passes are available at a number of retail outlets such as pharmacies, grocery stores and transit hubs throughout the city. By Bike If you prefer to create your own itinerary, Victoria is a particularly cycle-friendly city. Cycle paths make getting around the city easy and safe, so you may wish to rent a bicycle from Reckless Rider. And of course you may choose to walk around – many of the attractions are located within easy walking distance of one another. Getting to Duncan From Victoria: To visit the Pacific North West Raptors at Duncan, take the scenic drive up highway 1 for 37 miles.
